Genetic Definitions
Genotype
- the actual gene combination which an individual possesses
Phenotype
- the traits which an individual expresses (ie. visible traits)
Homozygous
- when an individual possesses either 2 dominant 'genes' or 2 recessive 'genes'
Heterozygous
- when an individual possesses one dominant and one recessive 'gene'
Alleles
- two (or more) alternate forms of a gene
Monohybrid cross
- when a single contrasting trait is crossed, say a tall plant with a short one
